Security Measures by al-Julani Forces to Protect the Iranian Embassy
WANA (Jan 06)- Some Syrian sources reported today (Monday) that several brigades affiliated with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham have started imposing strict security measures to protect the Iranian embassy and diplomatic sites in Damascus and other Syrian cities.
The sources mentioned that combat units from several brigades under Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham or military operation management began deployment around the Iranian embassy building in Damascus and its other locations.
These measures, which are being taken for the first time since the December 8th developments, aim to prevent any attempts to approach the embassy building or write slogans on its walls.
According to these sources, it appears that these units are working to de-escalate tensions with Tehran and address the criticisms that have recently intensified. They have blocked the main entrances of the embassy and imposed strict security measures.
Under international law, embassies are considered diplomatic premises and must remain protected from any violation.
The sources added that, according to available information, there is currently no one inside the embassy, but the security measures suggest there may be surprise developments in the coming days, including the return of embassy staff to their work.
They further mentioned that Mohammad al-Julani’s statements regarding Tehran were not harsh but contained mild criticisms and subtle messages that indicated efforts to reduce tensions in relations.
